Don’t be myopic in your approach to web promotion
How many times have I heard a client ask me these questions?
- “I didn’t hire you for website usability. I hired you for SEO.”
- “I didn’t hire you to redesign my site. I hired you to get my site #1 on Google.”
- “We don’t need usability testing with searchers. People use our site all of the time.”
- “We can’t rewrite our content. Optimize what is already there.”
- “Just make our AJAX search-engine friendly. Don’t do anything else.”
Oh, brother.
Why are these kind of questions frustrating to someone like me, who tries (and most of the time succeeds) in creating an overall solution for web marketing? Let’s reword this into on simple question we’ve probably been asked (or have asked in our younger years):
- Why is the sky blue?
Why, indeed? Well, the actual answer is: The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air. However, much of the shorter wavelength light is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue.
If you’re a parent, you’ve probably said in response is… “Stop asking questions and eat your vegetables.”
Rather than illuminating you with one of my articles, I thought that I would share a brilliant article from Searchengineland.com, written by Shari Thurow:

Web Promotion Hybrid vs Web Promotion Specialist
We will say something about this article that is important to walk away with: don’t be fooled by web promotion specialists that say link popularity, or seo, or viral marketing, or this program or that factor is the only thing that is important for web marketing. There is always a blend between all tactics and strategies, and you have to hire someone that will understand how it all fits together.

Your website looks really good. Being a blog writer myself, I really appreciate the time you took in writing this article.
